Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

One of my firm beliefs is that everyone has a purpose. Every single life has meaning. Every single person has unique gifts, talents, and personality traits that have the potential to make a life-long, deep, good impact. Not everyone chooses to use their gifts in a positive way, but all have the potential to be a light in their local community and the world.

Many people will use their gifts, talents, and personality to make a huge, positive impact in the world. Some will be in the public eye where all can see the good they do, while others will serve well behind the scenes. Whether our opportunities and personalities lead us to serve publicly, privately, or both, when we use our gifts and talents for good, we make a deep impact on our little part of the world.

Your Circle of Influence

You may have anywhere from a few seconds to a lifetime to influence the people in your life. There are people whose lives will intersect with yours momentarily, and you have a split second to smile and brighten up their day in some small way. It might be the cashier at the grocery store, the man you pass as you walk through the parking lot, the teenage girl at the drive-through window, the person sitting the next cubicle over, or the woman working in the toll booth. You may see this person again or this may be your only opportunity to influence them.

Friday Favorites

This is the first edition of Friday Favorites. Every Friday I am going to share a few of my favorite things. It might be my current favorite products, quotes, travel destinations, Scripture verses, or something completely random. I hope you join in on the fun and share a few of your favorites with me.

For the launch of Friday Favorites, I’ve decided to share what inspires, motivates, and encourages me the most – 10 of my favorite Scripture verses!

  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” I believe that all Scripture is God-breathed. God speaks, encourages, inspires, sharpens, and challenges me through His word. The more time I spend reading the Bible, the more I am stretched to be a better reflection of Jesus Christ to the world.
  • John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” If people know just one verse from the Bible, it is often John 3:16. This is a verse I have heard my entire life, but I don’t ever want to take the message for granted. God loves you and me so much that He gave of Himself. He wants us. He wants us to repent (turn away) from our sin and live in such a way that shows we truly believe that God is who He says He is.

You Have a Purpose

You have a purpose.

Yes, you. Not just the person behind you or sitting next to you. They have a purpose, but so do you.

You have a purpose uniquely designed for you.

Do  you know you have a purpose? Do you believe it?

If you are reading this right now and are struggling to believe this, please hear me. You are wanted, and you are needed. You may feel like no one cares. You may feel all alone at this moment. Don’t quit living. Your life matters. You matter. You have a crucial role to fill. You have so much value to add into the lives of others. You are worth it. Continue reading “You Have a Purpose”

Give the Gift of Presence

Have you ever gone to dinner with a group of friends and people pulled out their phones to check the latest on social media or text? You thought you were going to dinner with your friends but really you end up going with your friends and all of their followers. Their attention is split between you and their phone. How many times have we been that friend who focuses more on their phone than the friend sitting right across the table?

There are so many different people, situations, and responsibilities that often pull us in various directions. We’re trying to juggle it all but something or someone may be falling through the cracks. We try to multitask in an attempt to be more efficient or productive with our time. We’re on social media while watching the game with friends and family. We listen to the children in our lives read us a book while responding to our emails. We’re present but our attention is split. We’re present but not fully engaged in the moment.

So how can we do both…be present and fully engaged…and do it well?

Hello World!

There are so many difficult, and even horrific, things that are happening in our cities, nation, and all around the world. I don’t ever want to ignore the tragic or make light of it, but I do want to do my part in bringing encouragement in the midst of it all.

You and I may not be able to change the world, but we can each make a positive impact in our corner of the world. We can inspire and influence our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, acquaintances, and even strangers. As we strive to do our part in shining brightly, our influence can reach across the road, around the nation, and over the oceans to people we may never even meet in person.

Through my blog, I hope to inspire and challenge you and I to live well, love much, and laugh often. May we all find ways to add value to this world in which we live. Let’s all do our part in bringing beauty to our world.
