Life isn’t about perfection. It’s about faith, family, community, gathering together, enjoying new experiences, and holding on tight to Jesus through the challenges and victories of life. Life is about running hard after our passions and dreams. It’s remembering that the Creator of heaven and earth created each of us from dust, on purpose and for a purpose. You and I have an opportunity to be a part of the story God is writing each and every day.
It can be a struggle to not lose sight of God’s over-arching purpose for our lives when we get bogged down by the routine and hard days of life. It’s easy to get distracted. To grow weary. To be pulled in far too many directions. Sometimes we just need to take a step back. Pause. Reevaluate. Prioritize.
It’s time to be intentional about pursuing God and His purpose for our lives. A few things I try to remember are to:
Run in my own lane. We are all running the race of life, but we’re meant to run in our own lane and not someone else’s lane. We need to focus on fulfilling the purpose God has set before us and finding contentment in our current season of life, whatever it may be.
Study, reflect, and pray. My day goes far better when I take even a few minutes to spend time reading Scripture and praying before heading out to work or whatever else my day my hold. I need time with Jesus to calibrate me and set my heart straight for anything that may lay ahead. I am so not a morning person, and it’s hard enough for me to get up, ready, and out of the door on time, but I’m challenging myself to start my day off right in the presence of God.
Celebrate others. I want to live confident in God’s purpose for me and be able to enjoy the amazing things God does in and through the people around me. I may be wishing and praying for a miracle or opportunity in my own life, but that doesn’t have to stop me from celebrating others seeing their dreams come true and prayers answered. Every miracle is worth celebrating. Let’s be a community of people who cheer each other on.
Know when to say no. Living life well is often about balance. We need to know when to say no. Remember the priorities you’ve set, consider your schedule, pray, and don’t be afraid to say no when appropriate.
Start where I am. I love to dream. I have lots of ideas that I would love the opportunity to pursue. But it can be so easy to say I don’t have enough time, money, talent, or whatever it may be. Those are all excuses and often keep us from ever pursuing the dreams we have. I’m reminded again and again to start right where I am on the dreams that are most important to me. I can do what I can right where I am and work towards my ideas, letting the dream unfold one little step at a time.
